This is a reproduction of a Serbian military officer's cap (sajkaca: SHY-kah-cha), made in Serbia as part of WWI centenary commemorations. The sajkaca cap got its name from the material from which it was made, a wool cloth known as sajak in Serbian. All soldiers war the sajkaca, officers having a simple gold coloured trim on theirs. The sajkaca came into use during the Balkan wars, and was in use as a military cap up until and during WWII by the Royal Yugoslav Army. Men who fought in the Balkan wars continued to wear their sajkace in peace time, and now the sajkaca has become part of the folk costume of much of Serbia. The reproduction is made of a cotton synthetic blend, but is otherwise entirely accurate to the original. The crest - the Serbian double eagle with shield - is cast metal.
